Uganda has tens of thousands of viable small businesses shut out of credit. We exist to change that — one group at a time.

Our story.

Kuula Microfinance was founded in 2026 in Wakiso District, Uganda. The name "Kuula" is Luganda for "to grow" or "to mature" — capturing our mission to help every borrower's business grow stronger with each loan cycle.

We started because we saw the same problem everywhere we looked: banks demand land titles. Microfinance institutions cap loan sizes too low. Money lenders charge predatory rates. Mobile lending apps serve consumer credit, not working capital.

The 80,000+ small business owners in Wakiso were left in the gap.

Kuula closes that gap. We use group cross-guarantee — a model proven across decades of microfinance — combined with modern mobile money data analysis. We lend small, we listen carefully, we grow with the businesses we serve.

Regulatory standing.

Kuula Microfinance Company Limited is incorporated under the Uganda Companies Act, 2012, and licensed as a Tier IV money lender under the Tier 4 Microfinance Institutions and Money Lenders Act, 2016.

We are regulated by the Uganda Microfinance Regulatory Authority (UMRA), a member of the Credit Reference Bureau, and compliant with the Data Protection and Privacy Act, 2019.
